Incidents and accidents can happen in an instant. Here are a few examples of what can happen in the blink of an eye:

"Arriving at [XXX Location] we traversed up the ramp to the flat area of pavement where I planned to stop. It turns out that at the edge of the pavement there was a lot of sand and dust, and it kicked up, blinding me (I wear contacts). Had to close my eyes, so throttled down and stopped. Had there been other factors, this could have been a dangerous situation. I could have easily run into any one of several nearly obstacles or persons. The next time, I'll wear goggles and carefully check the area where I plan to operate for such hazards." -- excerpted from a Hovercraft Incident/Accident Report.

"Operating from a public boat ramp at [XXX Location]. Entered without incident and cruised for a period of time before returning. I was headed for the ramp at moderate speed when I saw a flick of fins between us and the ramp – I was only about 30 yards out at most. I throttled back and stopped. There was a person snorkeling directly in front of the boat ramp – a boater who had lost something! This is a strictly non-swimming area, and no diver flag or any other warning device was visible. Had I approached the ramp about two seconds earlier, I could easily have struck this person as he surfaced. Always check and recheck the ramp area before landing, and be prepared for unexpected hazards!" -- excerpted from a Hovercraft Incident/Accident Report.
